Councillors
Paul has lived in Slip End all his life and joined the Parish Council in December 2008. Paul gained his degree in Sheffield and then worked for several pub companies. After 3 years as a consultant in the licensed retail industry, he took over the lease of the Frog & Rhubarb in 1999. He is a Fellow of the British Institute of Innkeeping. Paul became Parish Council Chairman in 2017.
Sarah moved to the Parish in 1976 when her parents took over the lease on The Plough Public House in Woodside, and then subsequently moved to The Rising Sun in the village in 1992 when her parents bought it as a Free House and renamed it Minnighan’s, and they were there until her parents retired in 2000. She went to school in Caddington and then Dunstable. Her great-grandmother was the Parish District Nurse and Midwife, Louisa Chadwick. Sarah joined the Parish Council in May 2008, she’s on the Community Projects Group committee, is a Trustee of the Slip End Playing Field Management Committee and works in Luton.

Paul says ‘I am a retired professor, working most of my life in Africa and the Caribbean, with a stint of twelve years as Head of the Department of Environmental Science at the University of Luton. I have lived in and around Luton for over 30 years, with three children educated in local schools. Since 2009 I have been resident in Pepperstock. Retirement claimed me in 2014. I now do voluntary work for Hertfordshire Health Walks, leading a weekly walk for the Markyate community. I am also a season ticket holder at Luton Town FC’.
Simon moved to Pepperstock in 1996, when he was recruited as company accountant for a local business. Since then he has moved with his wife Carol, to The Grove Park home site in Woodside. He currently works as a Consultant for Bedfordshire Rural Communities Charity, specialising in Community Buildings advice and developing the Good Neighbour Scheme network. He says “having decided to make Slip End our long term home, we wanted to get involved in our community and help protect and develop the already vibrant life of the village”. Simon joined the Parish Council in October 2012. Simon is Chairman of our Good Neighbour Scheme, Chairman of the Community Projects Group, and Secretary of the Village Hall committee.
Carol says ‘I have lived in Slip End for 27 years and moved to Pepperstock in 2017, I have two married children and four grandchildren. My working life was in retail, I had kitchen shops in Dunstable and Flitwick. Since retirement I have been a member of the Slip End Gardening Club and am now treasurer.
I am on the Steering Committee of the Neighbourhood Plan and take an active part in the Good Neighbour Scheme and am treasurer’. I’m also a trustee of The Peter Edwards Hall and Slip End Playing Field”
Peter has been our Parish Clerk since early 2010. Previously he was an Office Manager and then Sales Manager for a large International Brewing group. As well as his duties with the Parish Council, he is Administrator for the Slip End Playing Fields and Clerk to Aley Green Cemetery. He lives in Stopsley, Luton, and is married with two grown up daughters.
County Councillors
A retired business owner, Eddie has lived in this part of South Bedfordshire for over 40 years and was amongst the first residents to move into Claydown Way when those houses were built. With previous service on various Parish Councils in the villages where he has lived, plus time on the old South Beds District Council, Eddie is keen to get involved once more in representing this area at Central Bedfordshire Council.

Kevin was first elected to Central Bedfordshire Council in 2013 in a by-election. The Ward of Caddington covers the Parishes of Caddington, Hyde, Kensworth, Slip End, Studham & Whipsnade. Kevin moved into this area in 1997, spending eight years in Slip End (including getting married in St Andrew’s Church) before moving to Caddington. Locally Kevin is also involved with the Angus Brewer Community Fund and chairs the CASE Community Trust.
